VELO CUBA IN A FEW WORDS:

Velo Cuba was founded in 2014 by Cuban Nayvis Diaz Labaut, when the political and economic conditions in Cuba temporarily improved. Inspired by European models, Velo Cuba today offers a wide range of services that benefit both locals and visitors to the island. These include comprehensive bicycle repair and maintenance services, bike rentals, as well as fascinating city tours and excursions in Havana and Trinidad. Velo Cuba is particularly committed to road safety education for children, enabling them to ride bikes safely.

Notable innovations include the development of bamboo bicycles, a project Velo Cuba is advancing in collaboration with European experts and the University of Cienfuegos. Cuba is home to 24 species of bamboo, two of which are suitable for making bicycles. Currently, six bamboo bikes are already in use and are being tested by our staff in the Havana Zoo.

Another step in our sustainability strategy is using prize money to empower others. We offer internships for deaf individuals and contribute to their professional training.

Velo Cuba now employs more than 30 people at its headquarters in Havana, all of whom fully identify with the company’s values.

HOW ARE THE OCEAN SPIRIT AND VELO CUBA CONNECTED?

Members of THE OCEAN SPIRIT team had the opportunity to meet and get to know the Velo Cuba team in person (through a visit and two months of volunteer work on-site).

The values lived by Velo Cuba align with those of THE OCEAN SPIRIT, and they are as follows:

"We are like a bicycle chain, all connected, working together, hand in hand, on equal footing."

"We reject all forms of discrimination and promote an inclusive community that respects the potential and talents of all."

"Our team appreciates and supports the diversity and abilities of each individual."

"Together, we continue to commit to a greener future and better health."
